With a little bit of Kirtan in your life (and by little, I mean little) Kirtan has gone a long way to connecting two women named Now and Zen (aka Donna Dakota & Woods ‘KWP’ ) who reside on each other’s flip side. By flip side, I mean, flip side of the planet.
Kirtan is call and response storytelling in the form of Sanskrit verse. Within the lyrics are found an outpouring of love and devotion directed at an array of deities from the Hindu religion.
A kirtan session will hole you up in a room full of chanters. For a couple hours the singers will ‘call’ a prayer devotion to the gods and the audience will ‘respond’ in kind. The inside energy becomes electric, every person in the room truly let’s go, and inner peace does actually seem within reach.
One of the two authors lives in Schenectady, New York, the other in Sydney, Australia. Neither women have visited their respective writer’s city. Both share perspectives that are similar and yet skewed, ripe and not rotten, riveting and sometimes raucous.
Just like the waves of energy expelled at a kirtan session, Now and Zen literally crashed into each other whilst scampering through various random energy waves of the universe. There was sync. There were many hilarious splatters. Goodness knows how, but they just seemed to ‘work’. The randomness of their obvious ‘always going to happen’ meeting has neither bothered nor escaped them.
Now and Zen spend their lives living. Every so often one Calls or to the other and awaits a Response. For no other reason but for the fact, they can. Together in their unique connection, they know they create a minor shift in the universe. Now and Zen truly believe they help to bring back the balance to the planet through their very own version of Now and Zen Kirtan.
And so the journey of Now and Zen began humble beginnings and looking much like staying that way throughout eternity.
